Sujin Kim is a DMA candidate in piano performance at the College-Conservatory of Music, where she received a full scholarship to study piano with Michael Chertock. She holds a master’s degree in piano performance from CCM and completed a bachelor’s degree at Kyungwon University in South Korea with a summa cum laude. Ms. Kim had presented Beethoven Choral Fantasy and Mozart K. 488 with CCM Chamber Orchestra and Cincinnati Collegium Musicians. She is an active performer, both as a soloist and in collaboration with singers, instrumentalists, and choirs including Cincinnati Camerata, Vocal Art Ensemble and Forest Aires. Kim is currently a staff accompanist at Northern Kentucky University and performs solo and chamber recitals in the Cincinnati area while also finishing her DMA.
Haerim Soek: Originally from Seoul, Haerim Seok is a Korean composer based in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her output ranges from instrumental works, computer music and pieces for young musicians. Haerim holds degrees in music composition from Yonsei University and the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati, where she received her doctorate. Her principal teachers include Jiesun Lim, Joel Hoffman and Mara Helmuth. Dr. Seok’s music has been performed in Korea, the United States, Japan and Croatia. Recent works have been focused on combining acoustic instruments and electronic media. Pieces such as Through the Contrabass (2015, recently performed at the New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival) and Behind the Flute (2014, recently performed at the Electroacoustic Barn Dance, and National Student Electronic Music Event – N_SEME) use electronics as a means for both extending and exploring the timbral qualities of a particular solo instrument. In addition to composing works that blend music and technology Haerim performed in computer music concerts with the Cincinnati Laptop Orchestra Project (CiCLOP). Dedicated to community-oriented music making, Dr. Seok has been an active teacher, conductor, composer, arranger and performer with many youth and church ensembles in Seoul and in the Cincinnati area.Upcoming projects include an orchestral commission piece from the Chicago Civic Orchestra and new works exploring electronic sound.
