Scholarship Audition Information

The Forest-Aires Women’s Chorus Vocal Scholarship Auditions

TIME:   6:00 – 9:00 P.M.

PLACE:  ANDERSON CENTER THEATER 7850 FIVE MILE RD, CINCINNATI, OH 45230

The Forest-Aires Women’s Chorus is pleased to announce auditions for four vocal scholarships for the current school year for students attending qualifying high schools in our local area. Selected scholars will be awarded a $1000 scholarship each.

Audition Forms will be available through High School Choral Directors and through the Forest-Aires Vice President, Joyce Malek. For the audition, students will need to:

  • Perform a memorized and well-rehearsed vocal selection that showcases the student’s voice and is 2 – 3 minutes.
  • Provide a 200 – 300-word statement responding to the question: “How will this scholarship benefit me?
  • An accompanist will be provided if you do not have one. Please bring your music selection with you.

Upon selection of the 2023-24 Scholarship recipients, the Forest-Aires will host a Scholar Reception on Monday, October 23rd, at 7:00 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church at 1175 Birney Lane near Salem Road. We welcome parents, family/friends, and voice teachers to this celebration.

At the Scholarship Reception, the chosen scholars will:

  • Perform their audition piece with their accompanist or with the pianist provided.
  • Sign their contracts, a parent will need to co-sign the contract at this time, as well.

All four scholarship winners will be showcased at our spring show, ENCORE! 2024, at the Anderson Center Theater on Friday and Saturday, April 19th & 20th, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 21st, at 3:00 p.m.

The scholars must commit to these performances, and to rehearsals on April 16th and 17th.  

PLEASE DO NOT AUDITION IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO COMMIT TO THESE FIVE NON-NEGOTIABLE DATES! 

In addition to this information letter, please find two additional attachments: the audition form and the scholarship guidelines and rules for 2023-2024.

Choral Directors are to register the names and contact information of interested students and provide them with copies of this announcement and these two attachments.  All contestants must complete the audition form and bring it with them to the audition. This form will be given to the Forest-Aires judges’ panel at the time of the audition.

Registration deadline is October 1st. The Choral Directors will please contact Joyce Malek by October 1st with their list of participants, and she will then coordinate specific audition times for registered students. Students are encouraged to make Choral Directors aware of any previous commitments or time constraints that they or their accompanist might have for the evening in October, so that we can try to arrange the audition schedule accordingly. Audition schedules will be emailed to all choral directors with registered students. If you have any questions, please contact Jeanie Peter or Joyce Malek.
